Background of the project

The website is a B2B brand, a leading print on demand platform in India. They have built a strong brand over the years.

However, they wanted to scale their traffic and beat their competitors by creating more content and planning topical hubs around print on demand, eCommerce, custom printing, and dropshipping.

What we did

Here are some of the key tasks we did to deliver the growth:

1. Fixing Keyword cannibalization issue

In the initial days, the website owner and their marketing team had published 100s of articles and many of the articles were targeting the same keyword— which resulted in poor ranking distribution for our target keywords.

So, the first thing we did was identify the keyword cannibalization issue and fix them with the following:

  • Merging duplicate pages
  • Redirecting low-value pages to the higher-ranking pages
  • Fixed the internal linking for the primary page

NOTE: We ensured that we have one page targeting our primary keyword, instead of having multiple pages trying to rank for a single keyword.

2. Updating existing content

When we started the project, we found almost 300+ articles published under the blog subfolder. But the shocking thing was that only the top 10 pages were driving almost ~70% of the total blog’s traffic.

So, we started updating our posts and improved their ranking instead of creating new ones. This helped us improve traffic quickly.

3. Setting content guidelines and training writers

Our client was also struggling to create quality content as the content lacked research and accuracy in the first place. 

To fix this issue, our team created a content guideline and gave multiple training sessions to the writers to help them understand semantic SEO, information gain, and many other technical aspects of quality content.

4. Creating topic clusters and content hubs

We have four primary pillar themes for our website— eCommerce, dropshipping, print-on-demand, and custom printing. Considering these themes, we have done keyword research to build topic clusters.

Also, we organized the existing content and created a library of lessons for our target audience. This helped us to build a learning centre for users who might become a customer in future.

5. Custom schema markup

We are a firm believer in using custom schema markup to provide additional details about the brand to Google. We have created custom schema types for this brand for product pages, the homepage, and About Us page.

6. Setting up conversion tracking

The website did not have any goal-tracking process. As a result, there was no way to know which pages were driving the most and least conversions.
